We're Hiring: Publicist at Simon & Schuster Canada

Simon and Schuster is seeking a full time Publicist, who is a creative team player, detail-oriented and passionate about books. They should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a marketing and/or publicity capacity. This highly-motivated individual will work well independently and on a team, reporting to the Director of Publicity. They will be responsible for creating and executing publicity campaigns and events for books on the children’s and adult lists, ranging from commercial and literary fiction and non-fiction, picture books, middle grade and YA novels, and celebrity memoir.

 

S&S Canada is currently working both remotely and in-person, and the ideal candidate will be based in the Greater Toronto Area. Please note that only those authorized to work in Canada will be considered.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key media, booksellers, festival directors and influencers
  • Develop and implement title-specific publicity campaigns for books and authors
  • Write press materials, pitch and secure media coverage (broadcast, print, online) including cover reveals, book announcements, feature interviews, reviews & round-ups in national and local media
  • Build strong relationships with authors and agents and ensure open communication as it relates to publicity efforts
  • Work closely with in-house departments including editorial, marketing and sales in Canada and the US
  • Conceptualize and execute in-person and virtual author events across Canada to engage readers and increase discoverability
  • Escort authors to events, tradeshows, conferences as required; ability to attend evening and weekend events, and to travel are a must

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interest in book publishing, specifically publicity and media relations
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills
  • Adaptable, resourceful and proactive problem-solver who enjoys a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working on successful media campaigns
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and execute events
  • Strong awareness of social media platforms and digital marketing trends
  • Have the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, work independently, and demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through
  • Publishing diploma or equivalent publishing experience is an asset, though not required
